Removing motor oil stains from leather

In general: Always treat an entire section from seam to seam. Do not rub on the stain, this will damage the leather and it will remain visible. When in doubt, contact us.

NB open leathers are often able to absorb pure grease stains. Remove as much oil as possible with unbleached kitchen paper. Only carefully dab the oil off, do not rub onto the leather. Afterwards take a picture of the stain, don't do anything else. After a few days take another picture and compare the two. If the stain has faded away a bit or has become less visible you can wait longer. Maybe the oil will be completely absorbed into the leather. If the stain doesn't fade away you can try cleaning it:

Be aware that the degreaser doesn't differentiate between the grease stain  and the waxed finish of saddle leather. Both will be removed by the degreaser. In the case of saddle leather using the degreaser might make the stain worse.
